BOYD COUNTY, KY–APRIL 23, 2025–According to a news story on WSAZ-TV channel 3 in Huntington, West Virginia, construction is underway on Sandy's Racing and Game Quarter Horse track this week in Boyd County, Kentucky.
Crews have been moving mountains for the future Sandy Ridge Racetrack site.
Prentice Salter, the CEO of Revolutionary Racing, told WSAZ-TV the multi-million dollar project comes with ideas for expansion in the future.
"A year from now, there will be horses running right past us … a clubhouse, facilities, opportunities to host events up here, farmer’s markets," Salter said. "What we’re doing with Boyd County is a much larger picture, and we really envision a 390 acre entertainment zone, anchored by Sandy’s and Camp Landing and everything that’s going on down the hill and then you end up with the ability to maybe put in a water park and put in a sports complex and have racing 10 to 12 days a year. Then, that really becomes part of the entertainment complex and a draw for the region and that’s what we’re working on."
According to Salter construction began in earnest seven months ago and the plan is to open the racetrack in spring of 2026.
"To get to this stage of the development and build the racetrack and build a new racetrack in the state of Kentucky, it’s an honor and a privilege, and that’s something we don’t take lightly," Salter said.
