Last Five Races Sunday At Remington Park Canceled Due To Severe Thunderstorms

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 25, 2025Remington Park postponed the last five races of the 10-race card Sunday as severe thunderstorms moved into the Oklahoma City area with a forecast that suggested this weather was going to hang around for a few hours.

Lightning could be seen in the pouring rain that blanketed Remington Park as horses stayed in the paddock awaiting to be saddled for the sixth race. The word then came down that for the safety of all involved, the rest of the card had been canceled.

As far as multi-race wagers that were not completed, the Pick 3 that would have ended in the sixth race paid out to 6 or 10-3-ALL, paying $5.55. The Pick 3 that would have ended in the seventh race paid out to 3-ALL-ALL for a return of $2.55. All other wagers made for the remaining five races were refunded.

In the five races that Remington Park was able to get in before the rain, jockey Jose Vega won two races to lead the way. He was victorious on Set On Cruise ($38.20 to win), a 2-year-old Paint filly in the first race, upsetting the field of Paints and Appaloosas on his 18-1 longshot for trainer Matt Whitekiller and owner Dan and Kaye Jones of Kemp, Texas. He also made a trip to the winner’s circle with JC Fancy Eagle ($4.80) in the fourth race for trainer Rhonda Valdivia and owner Julio Contreras of Laredo, Texas.

Remington Park now moves to the final week of the spring season, Wednesday through Saturday, May 28-31. The first race nightly is 6pm with Saturday action for the huge Champions Night finale starting at 5pm. All times are Central.
