FARMINGTON, NM—MAY 26, 2025—The 2025 live race meet at SunRay Park concluded on May 25, with standout performances from top horsemen and owners in the Quarter Horse division.
Over the course of the meet, which ran from April 18 through May 25, Alfredo Sigala, Tony E. Sedillo, and CHR Racing emerged as the leaders in their respective categories of jockey, trainer, and owner based on wins and total earnings.
Sigala Leads Quarter Horse Jockeys
Jockey Alfredo Sigala topped the Quarter Horse jockey standings with 10 wins from 66 mounts, earning $184,254 in purses and posting a 15% win rate. Sigala’s consistency throughout the meet propelled him to the top of a competitive rider colony at SunRay Park.
Trailing closely behind was Luis Martinez, who registered 8 wins from 47 starts and had a higher win rate of 17%, along with $144,580 in earnings. Martinez tied for the most top-three finishes (22) and posted the highest in-the-money percentage among the leaders at 47%.
Third-place honors were shared between Jorge Nieto-Saenz and Jacob Enriquez, each recording 7 wins. Nieto-Saenz accumulated $123,469 in earnings from 57 starts, while Enriquez notched $117,073 from just 40 rides, boasting an impressive 18% win rate.
Sedillo Tops Trainer Standings
Veteran conditioner Tony E. Sedillo captured the leading Quarter Horse trainer title, sending out 6 winners from 41 starters. His barn earned $245,315, topping all trainers in purse money while maintaining a solid 15% win percentage. Sedillo also led all trainers in top-three finishes with 19.
Finishing second in the top three was James J. Gonzales III, who secured 5 wins from 24 starts for a 21% win rate and $107,360 in earnings. He was followed closely by David M. Gomez-Barraza, who saddled 4 winners from 19 starts, also posting a 21% win percentage, with $99,153 in total earnings.
CHR Racing Dominates as Leading Owner
In the owner standings, CHR Racing stood out with a dominant performance, recording 5 wins from 12 starters for a striking 42% win percentage. Their runners earned $188,378, the highest among Quarter Horse owners at the meet. Eight of their 12 starters finished in the top three.
Christian D. Olivas finished fourth overall but was second among owners with three or more wins, saddling 3 winners from 9 starters, good for a 33% win rate and $45,055 in earnings. Like CHR Racing, Olivas had a 67% top-three finish rate.
Twelve other owners tied for third with two wins each, including Joel Gutierrez, Bella A. Valenzuela, Mike G. Parker, Jaime G. Aldavaz Sr., One Time Racing Stables LLC, Rudy T. Flores, Joyce Darlene Erickson, Jesus J. Carrete, Laney Fowler, Adrian Zapata, and Aminadab Alvidrez.
The 2025 SunRay Park meet showcased a competitive and talent-rich Quarter Horse program, and the accomplishments of these leading connections reflect the high caliber of racing throughout the spring session in Farmington.
