MEXICO CITY, MX–APRIL 5, 2026–The Hipódromo de las Américas—Mexico’s only venue for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing—celebrated its 83rd anniversary in style.

Ubal Ríos, Deputy Director of the Las Américas Complex, joined members of La Sonora Dinamita de Lucho Argain, whose lively performance added energy to the afternoon, to cut a half-ton anniversary cake commemorating another successful season.

Ríos took the opportunity to thank the loyal fans who attend each weekend and to recognize the dedication of the racing community throughout the years. The Hipódromo de México first opened its doors on March 6, 1943, and since then its track has showcased outstanding equine athletes, legendary jockeys, committed owners, and thousands of hardworking individuals whose passion continues to sustain the sport.

As part of the celebration, the Clásico Primavera featured a competitive field of top Thoroughbred fillies and mares. It was Querendona, representing Cuadra San Jorge, who delivered a commanding performance, rallying powerfully on the outside. Ridden by Luis Manuel Jiménez, she covered the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19.2.

The five-year-old import is by Outwork out of Bonita (by Bluegrass Cat) and is trained by Jorge Alberto Ruiz Periban. Bred in the United States by Rancho San Jorge, Querendona earned her connections the winner’s share of the 289,000-peso purse.

With a festive atmosphere highlighted by music that kept fans dancing, a memorable anniversary cake, and a strong day of racing, the celebration at the Coloso de Sotelo proved to be a resounding success.
