Judge Counters Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission Order

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 26, 2026–A district court judge has stepped into a widening dispute between horsemen and regulators in Oklahoma, issuing a temporary restraining order that allows trainer Jed Vane and owner Matt Dunn to resume entering horses at Remington Park.

The decision challenges an Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission emergency order that had placed dozens of horses from multiple barns on the stewards’ list, effectively halting operations.

The legal fight extends beyond Vane. Trainers Leonardo Alcala and Josue Garcia have also filed legal actions contesting the commission’s sweeping order, arguing it imposed blanket sanctions without individualized findings and caused significant financial and reputational harm.

As of now, only Vane has secured a restraining order, but the broader challenge from all three barns continues to build.

The judge ruled that Vane’s horses were excluded despite no direct violations tied to them and ordered regulators to restore their ability to compete. A hearing is set just ahead of entries for the $1 million Heritage Place Futurity, placing added urgency on the outcome.
