OGALLALA, NB–MAY 22, 2026–Quarter Horse racing will make its return to western Nebraska this summer when Lake Mac Racetrack hosts a two-day live racing weekend July 10-11 at Lake Mac Casino Resort & Racetrack in Ogallala.

The condensed summer meet will feature eight races over two afternoons, with the first post scheduled for 3 p.m. Mountain Time each day.

Nebraska-bred runners will be the focal point of the weekend, highlighted by races offering purses of $30,000. Organizers said Adams Bank and Trust will contribute $10,000 in added money to each Nebraska-Bred Quarter Horse race, boosting the base purse from $20,000.

Lake Mac officials are positioning the event as more than just a race meet, with entertainment and community activities planned throughout the weekend. Fans will have the opportunity to attend Morning Thunder: Jockeys & Java on Saturday morning, giving visitors a chance to meet jockeys before the afternoon races. Live music, food vendors, giveaways and family activities are also planned as part of the festivities.

Parimutuel wagering will be available during both days of racing.

The event is being presented in partnership with the Nebraska Quarter Horse Racing Association, which continues its efforts to support and grow Quarter Horse racing across the state.

“Simplifying the race meet this year to one high-impact weekend allows us to create a strong, exciting experience for fans, horsemen and sponsors,” said Cynthia Smith, director of racing at Lake Mac Racetrack. “We are building something western Nebraska can look forward to each year.”

The July racing weekend marks another step in continuing live horse racing in the region while creating a summer attraction centered around Nebraska’s Quarter Horse industry.
