LITTLETON, CO–JUNE 17, 2026–The American Quarter Horse industry lost one of its most respected veterinarians, educators, and advocates earlier this week with the passing of American Quarter Horse Hall of Famer Dr. G. Marvin Beeman. He was 93.
A 1957 graduate of Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Beeman dedicated nearly seven decades to advancing equine health and welfare. He spent his entire professional career at Littleton Large Animal Clinic, helping establish it as one of the nation's premier equine veterinary practices while becoming a widely respected authority on equine lameness and performance horse medicine.
Throughout his career, Dr. Beeman served as president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, president of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, chairman of the American Horse Council's Health and Regulatory Committee, senior veterinary advisor to the American Quarter Horse Association, and a member of numerous veterinary, research, and agricultural organizations. He also served on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Equine Advisory Committee and on the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture's Advisory Committee on Foreign Animal and Poultry Diseases for two terms.
AQHA inducted Dr. Beeman into its Hall of Fame in 2000, recognizing decades of service to the breed and industry. The association frequently relied on his expertise on issues ranging from conformation and performance standards to medication policies and equine welfare initiatives. Serving as the American Association of Equine Practitioners liaison to AQHA for 24 years, he played a key role in developing policies and regulations designed to protect the health, welfare, and future of the American Quarter Horse.
His long list of honors include, but are not limited to Colorado Veterinarian of the Year, the American Horse Council Distinguished Service Award, the American Association of Equine Practitioners' Beyond the Call Award, the Colorado Horse Council Lifetime Achievement Award, induction into the Colorado Agricultural Hall of Fame, and recognition in both the International Stockman's Hall of Fame and the American Farrier's International Horseman's Hall of Fame.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Beeman was a respected mentor whose influence reached generations of veterinarians, horsemen, and industry leaders. Known for his integrity, humility, and dedication to horses, he freely shared his expertise and spent a lifetime improving the lives of horses and the people who cared for them.
Dr. Beeman's decades of service, leadership, and advocacy left a lasting mark on the American Quarter Horse industry and the broader equine community.
Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced when available.
