Longtime Quarter Horse trainer Curtis P. Bordelon Jr., passed away on Sunday.

VENTRESS, LA—JULY 27, 2026—Louisiana Quarter Horse racing lost one of its longtime horsemen with the passing of respected trainer Curtis P. Bordelon Jr., who died on Sunday, July 26, surrounded by family and friends. He was 83.

Born on Sept. 30, 1942, in Pointe Coupee Parish, Bordelon devoted much of his life to horses and the Louisiana Quarter Horse industry. After beginning his career with the Levee Board and serving in the National Guard, he pursued his lifelong passion for horses, establishing himself as a respected Quarter Horse race trainer before concluding his working career as farm manager of the Ponderosa Ranch.

Known for his tireless work ethic and straightforward character, Bordelon earned the respect of fellow horsemen throughout Louisiana and beyond. Friends and colleagues remembered him as a dependable man whose dedication to the sport was matched only by his commitment to his family.

Bordelon earned numerous Louisiana training titles in the 70's. The multiple graded stakes-winning trainer, conditioned Clouds Sayin Goodby to victories in the 1999 Remington Park Derby(G1), Louisiana Champions Day Derby(RG2), and Mardi Gras Derby(RG3). Other noted runners he saddled included Joe Taco and Go For Wonder.

Outside of racing, Bordelon enjoyed hunting, fishing, roping, training horses and dogs, and spending time with the many friends he made over the years. Those closest to him described him as persistent, determined, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Family was the center of Bordelon's life. He especially cherished holidays when children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gathered, creating memories that became among his greatest joys.

Bordelon is survived by his wife, Debra Sue Bordelon; his children, Carlene LaCour (Donald), Jon Bordelon Sr. (Debra), Curtis P. Bordelon III (Sonya), Blaine Bordelon (Gwen), Jarett Cameron Jr. (Penny), and Troy Cameron (Nina); bonus sons Alexander "Bubba" Jumonville (Lauren) and Claude "Coulon" Jumonville (Marsha); 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Connie Bordelon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis P. Bordelon and Nora Bordelon; his brother, Billy Ray Bordelon; and his son, Chad Cameron.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morganza, Louisiana, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Innis.

Curtis P. Bordelon Jr. leaves behind a lasting legacy as a respected Louisiana horseman whose dedication to Quarter Horse racing, steadfast work ethic, and devotion to family touched generations of horsemen and friends.
