Karmalites Wins Fourth Consecutive In $152,779 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge at The Downs at

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–AUGUST 18, 2024–Multiple stakes winner Karmalites raced to her fourth consecutive win on Sunday when she defeated Conflict by 1-1/4 lengths as the post-time favorite in the $152,779 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge(G3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Jockey Emilio Tapia rode the fastest qualifier to a 17.090 clocking, equaling a 104-speed index into a 5 mph headwind.

Trainer David Gomez-Barraza saddled the $12,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate to her fourth win in seven starts for owner Fabian Muniz Porras. The $70,278  Juvenile winners' purse increased the daughter of The Marfa Lights earnings to $183,000.

Last May, the filly won the $214,876 Four Corners Futurity. Paris Wixon bred Karmalites in Oklahoma from the Corona Cartel mare Cartel Karma.

Karmalites also received an invite to the $140,000-est John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) on Bank of America Racing Challenge Championship Night, October 26, at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Drifting out under jockey Luis Martinez, Conflict chased the winner to earn $42,000 for second.  Juventino Ruiz trains the $42,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate for owners Scott Branson and Jimmy Vasquez. 

Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, Conflict was second to Karmalites in the Four Corners Futurity. The Separate Interest colt from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel has earned $88,494

Reliance Ranches LLC's Jess Spicey Z, a $75,000 Ruidoso Select graduate, finished a neck back to earn $15,278 for third. Jimmy Dean Brooks had the riding call for trainer Cody Neal aboard the Apollitical Jess colt.  Slash Z Quarter Horses bred Jess Spicey Z in Oklahoma from the Tres Seis mare Kinda Spicey.

Love Ta Fly, Relentless Looker Z, A Line In The Sand, Train B Taka, Condigo, Boondock Blues, and Lil Ela completed the field.

Racing continues next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Downs of Albuquerque, with quarter horse and thoroughbred racing starting at 12:30 p.m. daily.
