Sixty-Four 2-Year-Olds Entered in John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge Trials
BY MICHAEL CUSORTELLI
HOUSTON, TX–APRIL 23, 2025–Sixty-four 2-year-olds are entered in seven John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge (G3) trials Saturday at Sam Houston Race Park.
Holms, a sorrel son of world champion Apollitical Jess and a $265,000 purchase from breeder William E. Smith at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, will make his career debut in fourth trial. The colt is out of Fast Prize Tracy, a winning and stakes placed daughter of Shazoom, and he is a full brother to 2016 Ruidoso Futurity G1 winner and All American Futurity G1 finalist Apollitical Chad.
Yasmine Medina trains Holms for owner Good Shepherd LLC. The colt drew the rail post and will be ridden by Oscar Andrade Jr.
Medina will also send out Wreckognize, a sorrel son of Flying Cowboy 123 purchased by Tabasco Racing LLC for $127,000 at last year's Texas QHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio. Wreckognize is out of Newport Lilysdelight, a daughter of champion Tres Seis and a full sister to graded stakes winner Triple Vodka.
Wreckognize drew post 4 and will be ridden by Oscar Andrade Jr. in the second heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday's trials will meet in the $40,000-added John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge final on May 17. The winner of the final will earn a berth in the Grade 2 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship at Albuquerque Downs in October.
