Challenge stakes offers opportunity for fillies and mares in Colorado

AMARILLO, TX–APRIL 27, 2026–Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colorado, will welcome AQHA Racing Challenge program distaffers in July, as the regional stakes originally scheduled to be held at Ruidoso Downs will move north.

"With the adjustment of racing at Ruidoso, we deeply appreciate Arapahoe stepping up to provide a stage for our AQHA Racing Challenge stakes horses," said AQHA Chief Racing Officer Janet VanBebber. "Their support of the industry, the horsemen, and the Challenge does not go unnoticed."

The Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge at Arapahoe Park will offer $30,000 in added money. The 400-yard test will offer trials on July 3 and the final on July 18.

The race will offer an opportunity to contest the AQHA Racing Challenge Championships at the nearby Downs at Albuquerque on October 17.

The nomination payment for the Cox Ranch Arapahoe Distaff Challenge is due May 1. To make a payment, visit the Racing Challenge page, or call the Challenge Hotline at 877-222-7223 or the AQHA office at 806-378-5085.
