MEXICO CITY, MEX–MAY 31, 2026–Seventeen two-year-olds competed in two qualifying trials Sunday at Hipódromo de las Américas seeking one of ten spots in the $48,360 John Deere Hipódromo de las Américas Juvenile Challenge final scheduled for June 21.
CCB Top turned in the fastest performance of the afternoon, leading the qualifiers over 350 yards in 17.840 seconds. Racing for Cuadra Cartas Blancas, she captured the opening trial under Huberclein Gomez to earn her first career victory and secure the top qualifying mark. The filly is trained by Jorge Ruiz Periban.
Rancho Las Gaviotas qualified a pair of runners led by RG A Candy Girl, who posted the second-fastest time of 17.869 seconds after winning the second trial. The daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon broke her maiden in her fourth career start under Mario Alberto Lopez Marmolejo for trainer Alfredo Rabanal. Stablemate RG Queen Of Hearts also advanced with the fourth fastest time after recording a time of 17.952 seconds.
Cuadra Alpuyeca's Qs Smooth As Silk secured the third-fastest qualifying time with a 17.927-second effort. The $70,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate finished second in the second trial following a third-place effort in The Prize Classic last month.
Cuadra M Gomez earned a berth in the final with Bogies Lucky Flash, who stopped the clock in 17.972 seconds, while Cuadra San Lázaro de Arara will be represented by Streakin Hot Fame after a qualifying run of 18.252 seconds.
Cuadra Bronco Raider matched Rancho Las Gaviotas with two finalists. Kiss Of Angels qualified with a time of 17.981 seconds, while Hard To Cowboy advanced with an 18.234-second effort.
Cuadra JJ also placed two runners into the championship field. Tricias Soul Train qualified in 18.275 seconds and Lucy Kate secured the final berth among the top ten qualifiers with a clocking of 18.323 seconds.
The ten fastest qualifiers will return to Hipódromo de las Américas on June 21 to contest the John Deere Juvenile Challenge final and compete for the winner's share of the $48,360 purse.
The winner of the June 21 final will earn a berth to the 2026 John Deere Juvenile Championship Challenge, scheduled for October 17 at The Downs at Albuquerque.
