Double the Fun! Two stakes races at Ajax Downs this Wednesday

AJAX, JUNE 24, 2024–Racing fans coming out to Ajax Downs this Wednesday, June 26, are in for a treat with two stakes races on a big, seven-race card. The final for the $34,020 Unclassified Stakes has a competitive field of 10 going 330 yards, and the second running of the $35,650 Stallion Auction Futurity has a fascinating field of nine 2-year-olds. The first race post time is 1:30 p.m

Cindy Loo, Who, winner of the faster trial for the Unclassified Stakes, has drawn post position four in the final, and Robert Bailey's 3-year-old filly seeks her third win since coming to Ajax Downs in May. The competition is deep, as Cindy Loo Who only defeated Tcb Stormy Episode by a neck in their trial.

Brian Bell will ride Tcb Storm Episode for owner Jennifer Zurowski and trainer Joe Tavares. Zurowski and Tavares are also represented by Ill Go to War, a promising Ontario-bred colt who finished a close third in the second Trial.

That second trial was won by Senator Rose, who comes out of the red-hot stable of owner and trainer James Bogar of Cameron, Ontario, who also has Lady Alice in the field. Senator Rose, who Diego Benitez will ride, also eked out her Trial victory, defeating the good filly Expediant by a neck.

The second running of the Stallion Auction Futurity, race six on Wednesday, brings together a strong field of juveniles by Ontario stallions. Fate Zoomin, who finished second in her career debut in the Bonus Futurity on June 12, is a top contender for owner and breeder Richard Wincikaby of Orangeville and trainer John McInerney. The filly is by Winckibay's own stallion, Peighnt Your Fate, who has three other offspring in the field.

Scott Reid's homebred, The Batmann, and Carol and Jaime Robertson's Elvis The Great, both greys, had strong debut races and are contenders in the 250-yard dash. Many eyes will also be on the first-time starter Last Cold Bud, a half-brother to Horse of the Year One Kool Wave, who was unbeaten as a 2-year-old.
