LOS ALAMITOS, CA–NOVEMBER 6, 2024–Reliance Ranches’ Unrelentless returns to California after racing in the Rainbow Derby and the All American Invitational Stakes at Alburquerque to face a strong group of sophomores led by local stakes winners Ready For It and Cheater in the running in the $30,000 Town Policy Stakes at 400 yards on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
Trained by Eddie Willis, Unrelentless had a strong local campaign as a juvenile last year, finishing second to champion Trane Station V in the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity while also qualifying to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity.
He returned to action at Remington Park where he finished fourth in the Grade 2 Heritage Place Derby before qualifying and running in the Rainbow Derby at Albuquerque Downs. The colt by Hes Relentless will enter this race after posting a solid turn and work in :12.5 on October 26.
Juniors Quarter Horses’ Ready For It made one start at Albuquerque in the trials to the Grade 1 All American Derby before returning here to finish fourth in his trial to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby.
The Monty Arrossa trainee had a strong start to his sophomore campaign, running second to BP Cartel Policy in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby before winning the James Smith Memorial Handicap in early April. The Favorite Cartel gelding has won four of his 10 career starts.
Ed Allred’s Cheater has been sharp during his sophomore campaign as well, winning the Jens List Memorial Stakes on California Breeders Champions Night before qualifying and running sixth to BP Cartel Policy in the Golden State Derby. Scott Willoughby will saddle the son of Favorite Cartel out of the Grade 1 winner Forgive Him.
Jose Flores, Robyn Gordon, and Ricardo Rodriguez’s Kickin Famous has made the fields to three major derbies this season – the Winter Derby, El Primero, and Golden State, and now looks to score his first career stakes victory when he joins this strong field.
RH Bros. LLC and Anastacio Cavazos, Jr.’s Mfs Cheerio is another talented runner in this event. He was third to the undefeated Stanley Cartel in the Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap in his most recent local start after running the Grade 2 Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park in the spring. He won the Grade 3 Ruidoso Downs Juvenile Challenge last year.
Think Again Kev, a two-time Grade 1 futurity finalist last year, Beduinos Favorite, Remember John, and Relentless Coronado are among the other top sophomores in this race.
