Alberta’s top sophomores will compete in two trials for the $30,000 (CAN)-added Alberta Bred Derby on Friday.

ROCKY VIEW COUNTY, AB–SEPTEMBER 25, 2025—Friday evening’s card at Century Downs will highlight Alberta’s top sophomores with two trial heats for the Alberta Bred Derby, contested at 400 yards. The ten fastest qualifiers from the pair of races will return for the $30,000-added Alberta Bred Derby Final on October 10.

The opening trial will feature Ima Hott Version, a consistent filly placed in the money in six of her ten career starts. Purchased for $42,000 at the AQHRA Canada Sale by owners Laci Brunelle and Darby Danard, the daughter of Winners Version out of Im Hott Ur Nott (Tres Seis) was bred in Alberta by Ralph Danard.

Ima Hott Version has already proven herself with two victories and four runner-up finishes, amassing $36,741 in earnings. Misael Moreno trains her and will break from post four with Daniel Tavares aboard.

The second trial is expected to be the fastest of the evening, headlined by Flash Me a Corona, one of the most accomplished entrants in the field. The gelding has won six races, including the $22,000 All Canadian Derby, and has placed in two other major events, finishing third in both the $34,000 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby and the $32,000 Canada Cup Derby. His resume boasts $66,915 in career earnings.

Bred in Alberta by Ralph Danard, Flash Me a Corona is by Obsessed With Corona out of Look Back Moonflash (First Moonflash). He was purchased for $7,400 at the AQHRA Canada Sale by owners Janet Patriquin and Ralph Danard. Craig Robert Smith trains, and Ricardo Moreno will ride from the rail.

The ten fastest qualifiers from Friday’s two trial heats will secure their places in the October 10 Alberta Bred Derby Final, where they will once again travel 400 yards for a share of the $30,000-added purse.
