OPELOUSAS, LA–OCTOBER 15, 2025—Saturday night racing at Evangeline Downs heats up with an action-packed eight-race card, anchored by the $30,000-guaranteed Races and Aces Stakes, set to go as Race 7 at approximately 8:05 PM CT. The 870-yard dash is open to three-year-olds and upward, and has drawn a competitive field of eight, headlined by multiple graded stakes winner Explosive Legend.
Installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite, Explosive Legend brings an impressive résumé into the feature event. The four-year-old gelding by Mr Piloto, out of the Tres Seis mare Legendary Seis, was bred in Louisiana by Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm, LLC and purchased for $40,000 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale. Trained and owned by David Bustamante, Explosive Legend has proven himself at the stakes level, with six career victories and over $124,000 in earnings.
His most recent highlight came in the $50,000 Live Oak Stakes, where he powered to a commanding four-and-a-quarter length victory. He’ll break from post position five, with Donnell Blake returning to the irons in search of another stakes score.
Looming as the main challenger is One Fast Cajun, the 3-1 second choice on the morning line. A veteran of fifteen multiple graded stakes wins, the consistent gelding has amassed career earnings of $300,800. He most recently turned in a sharp effort to take the $25,000 Faubourg St John Stakes, rebounding off a runner-up finish behind Explosive Legend in the Live Oak.
Sired by Heza Fast Dash and out of the Lion Tamer (TB) mare Cajun Rocket (TB), One Fast Cajun was bred in Louisiana by Terry L. Gabriel and runs in the silks of Darrin and Norman Ladner. Trained by Rene Saias Vidana, the gelding will be ridden by Ubaldo Luna from post seven.
The rest of the field features a mix of experience and emerging talent, all competing for a share of the lucrative purse in a tightly contested race over the classic 870 yards. Saturday’s Races and Aces Stakes concludes an exciting evening at Evangeline Downs, where the field is set to clash over 870 yards. Post time for Race 7 is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
