GRANTS PASS, OR–JUNE 27, 2022–Stakes winner Warhock dueled Cm Boom Shakalaka to a head win in the $16,500 Mail Tribune Stakes Monday night at Grants Pass.
Ridden by jockey Jaime Lopez, Warhock completed the 350 yards in :17.325 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index. It was the nineth career win for the son of champion sire Zoomin For Bux.
Benito Curiel trains the 7-year-old gelding for owner Marlon Cowgill. Bred in Oregon by Hayden Brothers Ranch, from the Corona Cartel mare Copa Show Girl, Warhock has picked up $8,300 to boost his bankroll to $70,579.
Also a stakes winner, runner-up Cm Boom Shakalaka earned $4,150 for second. Nick Lowe conditions the Carters Cartel 7-year-old for owner Chris Sutton. Jose Nicasio rode the Oregon-bred from the Dash Ta Fame mare Mi Fames A Dandy .Bred by Randy Dickerson, Cm Boom Shakalaka has banked $204,485 in 37 career starts.
Jess Candy Lips was a neck back in the blanket-finish to take home $1,992 for third. Rosa Rodriguez saddled the Jes Lips mare for owner Baldemar Rodriguez. Dan Moon bred the 5-year-old in Idaho from the Teller Cartel mare Candies Coconut. Jose Guerrero had the riding call.
Arizona Favorite, Tell Foose, Messanger, Shesa Dashair and No Juans Fool completed the field.
