Dam of Distinction Havanah Goodtime Dies

PEASTER, TX–JULY 22, 2024–Bobby D. Cox's AQHA Dam of Distinction Havanah Goodtime died Friday, July 19, of complications from colic surgery.

The 14-year-old daughter of champion sire Ivory James, out of Jess Celebrating by Mr Jess Perry, won her only start at 2, a maiden at Remington Park. 

She is the dam of 13 registered foals, 11 foals of racing age, 8 ROM, 6 winners, 3 Grade 1 winners, and 1 champion.

Havanah Goodtime's first three foals to race all won the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity in concurrent years at Remington Park.

Her first foal, Duponte, was named the AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Colt in 2017. He won seven of 16 career starts and earned $921,237. He won the Heritage Place Futurity[G1], and Harrah's Entertainment Futurity[G3], was second in the Dash For Cash Futurity[G2], and third in the All-American Derby[G1].

The son of American Runaway was also a finalist in the Rainbow Derby[G1], Texas Classic Derby[G1] and Heritage Place Derby[G2].  Duponte is also a multiple-stakes sire.

Havanah Goodtime's second foal, Nymeria by Bigtime Favorite, won two of seven starts and earned $495,197. She also won the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) and was a finalist in the Texas Classic Juvenile.

Her third foal, Sunnyyde by Heza Fast Dash, had one win, two seconds in three starts earning $434,961. His lone win came in the Heritage Place Futurity(G1) at Remington Park.

She is also the dam of Sundanz (4 wins $94,176, to 5, 2024, finalist Downs at Albuquerque Fall Championship-G1, and James Isaac Hobbs Stakes-G2); Goodtyme (3 wins to 3, 2024, $43,786, finalist Golden State Million Futurity-G1), etc.

"We’ve had the family for a long time, and it has been very good to us,” Cox Ranch manager Bill Melson told TRACK Magazine's Monday Report. "She was an AQHA Dam of Distinction, and her second dam (Fitting Celebration) gave us the Champion Brimmerton and the Grade I winner Gone Celebrating; she (Fitting Celebration) was an AQHA Broodmare of the Year."
