LEXINGTON, OK–MARCH 9, 2026–Docs Dusty Cartel is already making his presence felt with his first crop. From just nine foals of racing age, his first runner, Whiskey Doc, made his debut in one of the earliest graded futurities of the season and qualified to the Grade 2 $435,395 Oklahoma Futurity on Friday, March 6.
Ridden by Cody Smith, Whiskey Doc broke third from the gate but steadily gained momentum despite a stiff 15 mph headwind. The brown gelding surged late to win his trial by three-quarters of a length, securing a berth in the Oklahoma Futurity-G2 final set for March 28.
Stacey Capps trains Whiskey Doc for owner/breeder Dusty Rose Ranch LLC, who also owns his sire, Docs Dusty Cartel. The homebred is out of Jls Tacitlikejohn by Tac It Like A Man.
Leading by example, Docs Dusty Cartel proved his ability on the racetrack before entering stud. He was named the 2022 Oklahoma Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Colt and compiled a strong résumé that includes victories in the Speedhorse Futurity (G3), Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Futurity (RG2), and the FL Lady Bug Stakes (RG3)—a race he captured twice.
He also finished third in both the Speedhorse Derby and Will Rogers Derby Challenge, and was a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby (RG2) and Jack Brooks Stakes (RG3).
The son of Coronado Cartel SI 98 ($416,178) is the highest the leading money-earning stallion standing at stud by the multi-millionaire sire. Coronado Cartel has sired 40 black-type runners and 211 winners with earnings exceeding $8.1 million.
Among Coronado Cartel’s top performers are Blue Corazon SI 88 ($431,252), Its the Whiskey SI 116 ($250,590), Southard Queen SI 95 ($220,440), Dangerous Cartel SI 96 ($214,775), Sir James SI 99 ($213,070), Conquering Marie SI 96 ($144,933), Pritty SI 103 ($136,062), and Coronados Fate SI 99 ($129,514).
Docs Dusty Cartel is a half-brother to Flying Wrangler SI 97 ($171,142) and Tac N Dale SI 97 ($123,173), as well as stakes-placed runners Docs Dusty Dash SI 91 ($71,701) and Coyotee Dale SI 93 ($66,766).
His dam, Docs Dusty Dale SI 95 ($31,239), was a finalist in the Grade 2 Speedhorse Futurity and is a half-sister to Dusty Bullseye SI 102 ($53,811).
Docs Dusty Cartel's second dam, Cinna Bul SI 98 ($45,288), earned Superior Race Horse honors with eight wins and was a finalist in the Oklahoma Distaff (G3). She is a half-sister to Docs Dusty Okie SI 113 ($275,715), a two-time Oklahoma Hi-Point Aged Gelding/Horse and Grade 3 winner, along with stakes-placed runners Candy Eye Rose SI 102 ($76,919) and Black Jack Rebel SI 104 ($49,102).
With his first starter already earning a victory in his first out, Whiskey Doc's performance puts Doc's Dusty Cartel on the charts as the second leading first-year sire of 2026.
Docs Dusty Cartel is owned by Dusty Rose Ranch, LLC. For breeding contracts or more information, contact Ray Deiter at (405) 627-2863 or email rpdeiter@gmail.com.
