Carters Cartel Filly Tops Louisiana Downs Meet with Mardi Gras Futurity Victory

KAPLAN, LA–MARCH 29, 2026–Carters Cartel wrapped up the Louisiana Downs meet in fashion, finishing among the top five leading sires of winners, highlighted by a dominant performance from his top juvenile.

His undefeated filly Mc Blue Cartel emerged as the No. 1 leading money earner of the meet, compiling $198,330 from just two starts. She stamped herself as the division leader with the fastest qualifying time to the $431,400 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2), then returned on closing night to deliver a determined victory in the final.

Under the meet’s leading rider by earnings, Jorge Garcia, the filly broke midpack before unleashing a powerful late rally to get up by a neck in :15.363. Owned by the meet’s leading owner by earnings, she is the first foal out of the Jess Louisiana Blue mare MC Bluecorona.

The win marked the first stakes victory of the 2026 season for Carters Cartel, who continues to build momentum nationally and regionally. He currently boasts nine winners and $267,064 in earnings from 31 starters, ranking as the nation’s third-leading sire of 2-year-olds and Louisiana’s No. 1 leading sire of 2-year-old money earners.

A proven source of black-type success, Carters Cartel has sired 107 black-type horses (16%) with nearly $17 million in progeny earnings. His leading runners include San Lorenzeaux SI 104 ($617,360), winner of the LQHBA Sale Futurity (G1); Carters Cookie SI 93 ($359,630), winner of the Rainbow Futurity (G1); First Fancy Racy SI 97 ($380,877); and Exquisite Stride SI 109 ($308,218), a multiple stakes winner.

On the track, Carters Cartel earned $659,146, hitting the board in nine of 10 starts with six wins. He was crowned the 2007 AQHA Racing Champion Two-Year-Old Colt following victories in the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) and Kindergarten Futurity (G1).

Now owned by Bobby D. Cox, the son of leading sire Corona Cartel, stands at Cox Stallion Station in Kaplan, Louisiana, for a fee of $3,500.
