ANTHONY, NM—MAY 20, 2012—Grade 1 winner Finding Nemo got his first stakes winner Sunday when Ss Calendar Girl won he $35,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes at Remington Park.
The two-year-old filly out of Remington Park Futurity(G1) winner First Prize Robin, by Mr Jess Perry, picked up $20,550 for the effort. She races for Hipoito Pina and is trained by Bonifacio Almanza. Lloyd Scherwinski and William E. Smith bred her in Oklahoma.
Third crop sire Finding Nemo has sired 33 winners, one stakes winner and three stakes placed from 81 starters, with earnings of $501,350. His get include the aforementioned Ss Calendar Girl SI 97 ($30,384 to 2, 2012), Bt Roses For Nemo SI 90 (Winner in 5 starts to 3, $20,252, 2nd Clasico Easily A Possum, etc.), Fast Prize Doll Too SI 98 (Winner at 2, $14,174, 3rd Black Gold 350 Futurity), Funny Face Nemo SI 100 (2 wins $10,279 to 3, 3rd Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge, etc.), etc.
Bred by J.D. Azevedo, C.E. Boyles and Paul Jones, Finding Nemo won or placed in 13 of 16 career starts, earning $719,544. Among his stakes wins were the Governor's Cup Futurity(RG1) and the PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity(G1). He was also third in the Los Alamitos Million Futurity(G1), Ed Burke Memorial Futurity(G1) and Golden State Derby(G1).
