LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 14, 2009—The Los Alamitos Equine Sale regularly attracts some of the finest bred horses in the country and this year appears to be no different. One yearling that many horsemen will be clamoring to see is hip number 261, a colt by A Regal Choice named Blues Girls Choice.

One of the very first foals out of 2007's AQHA World Champion Blues Girl Too, this colt figures to be one of the most exciting prospects in the entire sale. Blues Girls Choice was bred by his owner Lucky Seven Ranch and raised at Granada Farms in Wheelock, Texas.

"I think he's as good of a baby as I've ever had," commented Russell Stooks of Lucky Seven Ranch. "If I was going to a horse sale, he's exactly the kind of yearling that I'd be looking for. When I go to an auction, I'm always a lot more interested in a horse's female family than I am which sire they're by. Looking back to how good she was on the racetrack, it's hard to even describe how special Blues Girl Too was to us. I've been in this business since the early 90's and we'd had some really good horses before her, but she was really something. She was the highest money-earning female in the history of the sport and is certainly, in my mind at least, one of the best of all time."

An eight-time winner with earnings in excess of $2 million, the daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel was crowned AQHA World Champion in 2007 following a track-record setting victory in the storied Champion Of Champions.

Aside from nabbing that prestigious race, Blues Girl Too also scored wins in three other Grade I events, including the Golden State Derby, the Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap, and the rich Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Throughout her thirteen-race career, she was also a runner-up in the Golden State Million Futurity and Ed Burke Million Futurity at two.

"Blues Girl Too always had a mind of her own," explained Stooks. "She just knew that she was something special and her babies are like that too. They seem to share that same type of attitude. She really stamps them out with her mind. When you go to an auction, you can always tell what the individual is like and what their pedigree has to offer. The one thing you can't see on paper or in person is their heart. Blues Girl Too has it though and so far it looks like her attitude and heart is shining through to her babies as well."

By 2003 Los Alamitos Million Futurity winner A Regal Choice, Blues Girls Choice comes from an excellent top side family as well. A $735,507 earner, A Regal Choice won eight races lifetime and competed in seven stakes races throughout his career. "We were really attracted to him because of his conformation and his race record," Russell revealed. "I really think he's one of the best things out there. We also liked the fact that by breeding to him we could get a California-bred. We're big supporters of Los Alamitos and want to help to keep the horses here on the Pacific Coast if we can. They do a great job and supporting the entire California operation in any way is definitely one of our biggest goals."

One of three yearlings out of Blues Girl Too this breeding season, Lucky Seven Ranch also has a filly by Mr Jess Perry and a colt by Ocean Runaway out of the same mare.

"Right now we're leaning towards keeping the Ocean Runaway and selling the other two horses," Stooks explained. "We've got the Mr Jess Perry filly paid into the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The other two are really nice individuals too. Blues Girls Choice probably looks the most like his mother out of all three. He's a bay like her with a beautiful neck, head, and shoulder. He's perfectly correct in every way and really thinks he's something special just like his mom did. We're really looking forward to seeing him in the sale ring."
