World's Fastest Horse, First Moonflash Retires to New Mexico

BOSQUE, NM—DECEMBER 28, 2009—Multiple world record holder First Moonflash retired from racing following his back-to-back Championship at Sunland Park(G1) victory on Saturday. He will stand the 2010 season at Double LL Farm, near Bosque, New Mexico, for a fee of $5,000.

The 4-year-old from the only crop of champion 2-year-old colt First To Flash is the leading contender for 2009 champion aged stallion honors.

Racing for Pierre and Leslie Amestoy, Jr. and Maria Gonzalez, First Moonflash holds an unprecedented three world records and an additional track record while winning 18 of 25 career starts with earnings of $969,828.

Truly the world's fastest horse, he currently holds the world record for 350 yards (:16.715), 400 yards (:18.735) and 440 yards (:20.274). He broke his own 440 yard world record previous mark of :20.685. He also has a 440 yard track record at Albuquerque of :20.979.

A winner of 11 of his last 12 starts, First Moonflash's stakes victories include Championship at Sunland Park(G1)-twice, New Mexico Classic Derby(RG1), New Mexico Classic Cup Championship(RG1), Jess Burner Memorial Handicap(RG1)-twice, New Mexico Championship Challenge-RG1, Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap(RG2), New Mexico Breeders' Championship(RG2) and New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity(RG3). He was also a finalist in the Champion of Champions(G1-did not run) and the Remington Park Championship(G1).

He is out of the stakes-placed Major Rime mare Nagano Moon, who has produced five other ROM included grade 2 stakes winner Dash Ta Moon ($352,305), New Mexico's Hi-Point 3-year-old filly. His second dam is a stakes-placed daughter Tilt The Odds-TB, who is the dam of grade 2 winner Moon Shake ($208,017).
