LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 12, 2020—A pair of talented juveniles both with Champion of Champions pedigrees will headline the running of the John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge at 350 yards here on Saturday night. Eight races are on tap with first post set for approximately 7:30 p.m. (PDT).

Walker Family Trust’s Apollitical Patty, a half-sister to 2016 Champion of Champions winner Zoomin For Spuds, enters as the one to beat in the John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile after posting the fastest qualifying time on August 1.

Out of Jim Walker’s outstanding mare A Perfect Cocktail, the filly by Apollitical Blood has been perfect herself, winning all three of her career starts, each in impressive fashion. Her trial victory was a 3/4 lengths score and was preceded by a 1-1/2 length allowance romp and a runaway 1-3/4 length maiden victory.

Trainer Monty Arrossa praised Apollitical Patty for her trial win, which came after she trailed during the early going.

“She made a little mistake leaving the gate, but she’s been awesome in all three of her starts,” Arrossa said. “Once she lined out, she ran well. It (was) her first time running 350 and it looked like she handled the distance well. She is a good one.”

Owned by Bland Fam. Inv., Gordon, Robyn and S-Quarter K LLC, Just A Dasha Hero, who is a half-brother to 2015 AQHA World Champion and Champion of Champions winner Heza Dasha Fire, is also a top contender in this race after posted the second fastest qualifying time on trial night.

The son of Valiant Hero broke in maiden by daylight on July 5 before finishing strongly to grab second in the trials. Bred by S-Quarter K LLC, Just A Dasha Hero is full-brother to Ima Fearless Hero, a Grade 1 stakes winning champion and millionaire. Irving Lara will ride him for trainer Jose Flores.

Sally and Dave Kidd’s KR Frosty won his trial by a half-length and has been consistent all along. He’s finished in the money in all four of his starts.

“He’s a very solid horse,” trainer Jaime Gomez said of the One Sweet Jess gelding. “(Jockey Jesus Rios Ayala) said he didn’t have to ask him for much. He should do well in the final. He’s improved a lot.”

The Kidds and Gomez won the Grade 2 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship in 2018 with KR Hi Five. The field will also feature Transcendeur, Delila Rose, Royal Racy Perry, Tres A Jess, Jess A Beautiful Fire and Ms Racy Eagle..
