LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 3, 2022— A ticket to the Grade 1, Bank of America Challenge Championship will be on the line when a solid group of runners lock horns in the $43,384 California regional final on Saturday at Los Alamitos.
The field will be headed by Ed and Von Zae McNelis’ My Game Plan, who had a three-race win streak here earlier this season, a purple patch that included a victory in the $98,250 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes.
Impressive while visiting the winner’s circle three times during the first two months of the year, My Game Plan was then disqualified from second and placed fifth in the Adequan California Derby Challenge before running fourth and fifth in a pair of races at Arizona Downs.
Now that he’s back in California with trainer Monty Arrossa, My Game Plan will look to regain the form that made the One Sweet Jess gelding one to watch during the winter months. He should be a top contender on Saturday, while looking to collect the California berth to the coveted Bank of America Challenge Championship to be held Horseshoe Indianapolis in Shelbyville, Indiana on October 22.
Randy Dickerson’s CM Blue By You, who ran a strong second to Grade 1 winner Scoops Dynasty in the Adequan California, is another top contender in this race.
Also lining up in the starting gate will be Speed Dynasty, winner of the La Fiesta Futurity in 2020 and a finalist in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, Tres Coronas, an allowance winner at Remington Park on May 21, and E Gmail, a four-time winner and a multiple stakes finalist in the Intermountain region.
