Flight Club Scores Another Stakes Win In CTM Bonus Challenge Stakes For 2nd Consecutive Year

EDMONTON, ALB–AUGUST 26, 2023–Flight Club gets his seventh career stakes victory Friday evening at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino in the $15,000 Century Mile Bonus Challenge Stakes. This is his second year in a row to win the 350-yard stakes race.

Heavily favored to win, Flight Club was brushed at the gates but didn’t loose confidence and picked up the lead at first call, keeping it the wire for a 1 1/2-length victory over Getit Foose. J. Botello piloted the five-year-old gelding for the win in :17.961 seconds, clocking a 94 speed index.

The $11,153 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime earnings to $102,486. Trained by William Leech, Flight Club has nine wins, three seconds and one third from 15 starts.

Breeder Steve D. Burns of California sold the son of Foose for $19,000 to his current owner Charles Stojan in the 2019 Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Flight Club is out of the Separatist mare Seperate Flight, who is a half-sister to G1 winners Rock You and Little Talks.

This was the first out of the season for runner-up Getit Foose, who was ridden by Alan Rizo. The California bred son of Foose has lit the board 18 of 22 starts with seven wins and $56,662 in the bank.

Trainer William Leach also saddled Getit Foose for owner Charles Stojan. The six-year-old Martha Wells bred gelding is out of Getit Together by Separatist.

Coming in third was Double Cruise guided by Martin Ortiz. Bred, owned and trained by Tom Kenway the son of BD Cruiser has seven career wins with six of them in stakes competition and $86,217 in earnings. The six-year-old Alberta-bred gelding is out of Eye Cruise by Eye Take Time.

Bearcat Bill placed fourth with D. Benitez piloting and Wave Burner was fifth, ridden by Daniel Garcia.
