LOS ALAMITOS, CA–AUGUST 2, 2024–Streaks Of Power, who was sensational in her return to Los Alamitos on July 14, Project Leader, who has been unbeaten here all season long, and Brazilian superstar Edberg Verde, who tested his skills against champion Empressum in his last start, are among the bevy of stars that will be in action here on Sunday.
Streaks Of Power gets top billing as she heads the field for the $26,180 Cox Ranch California Regional Distaff Challenge.
Five top mares will be in action in the eighth race here on Sunday, but all signs point to the flashy gray Streaks Of Power as the one to beat. The 4-year-old mare by Power Jam won an allowance event here by 3/4 lengths last month, and she was also a winner when qualifying for the Los Alamitos Oaks last year.
Jorge Landeros' Above, who ran second to the impressive Rockin With Energy in last Saturday's California Breeders Debutante, is among this race's top challengers.
James Crotts' Project Leader, who has won seven straight races at Los Alamitos, one of those coming during the daytime Winter Meet here, is strictly the one to beat in the fourth race at 1,000 yards on Sunday.
Project Leader's signature victory during this purple patch is his two-length victory in the $35,000 Summer Stake Final at 1,000 yards. His daytime win here was a 1 3/4 length score at 5 1/2 furlongs.
Mauro Zaborowsky's Edberg Verde will go after his second victory in the U.S. when he takes on five rivals in race seven.
