Fastest Qualifier Karmalites Draws Post 10 for John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge
BY MICHAEL CUSORTELLI
ALBUQUERQUE, NM–AUGUST 15, 2024–Fabian Muniz Porras' Karmalites, a stakes-winning daughter of the One Famous Eagle stallion The Marfa Lights and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Sunday's 350-yard, $152,779 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Albuquerque Downs.
Karmalites is coming off of a half-length victory in the third of eight trials on July 26. A $12,000 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the filly has earned $112,722 from six races, and her three wins include a neck victory in the May 18, $215,000 Four Corners Futurity at SunRay Park.
Karmalites drew post 10 and will be ridden by Emilio Tapia for trainer David Gomez-Barraza.
Other contenders include Love Ta Fly, an undefeated stakes-winning Furyofthewind filly trained by Robi Meche for owner Cornerstone Stables. A $38,000 buy at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale, Love Ta Fly has banked $32,440 from three outs, and her three wins include a neck victory in the April 6, 300-yard West Texas Juvenile Stakes at Sunland Park.
Love Ta Fly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Edwin Escobedo.
The winner of this race will earn a berth in the October 26 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Albuquerque Downs.
