Heavy Favorite Arbitro Scores Fastest Time To The John Deere Juvenile Challenge

SHELBYVILLE, IN–AUGUST 31, 2024– Arbitro accelerated away from Macho Chick to get the victory in the first of two trials to the $30,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge on Saturday at Horseshoe Indianapolis, clocking the fastest qualifying time for the second time in his career.

Sent off at 1/9 odds under the guidance of Edgar Diaz, Arbitro clocked an 82 speed index in 18.105 seconds. The son of Ivory James led the four-horse field from gate to wire with a one-length victory. The post-time favorite's 350-yard effort paid $2.20 to win.

Arbitro scored his second career victory from three starts, and the $5,500 winner's share increased his bankroll to $46,904. He placed second in the Heartland Futurity after breaking his maiden in the trials with the fastest qualifying time.

Trainer Claudio Barraza saddled Arbitro for owner Campos Family Ventures LLC. Dillon Lane bred the bay colt in Texas out of Jess Dee Dee by Mr Jess Perry.

Coco Kiss won the nod in a photo finish after battling it out at the wire with Home Team in trial two for the second fastest qualifying time.

Ridden by Rolando Pina, Coco Kiss his trial heat from gate to wire in 18.226 seconds. The longshot's victory paid $19.00 to win on 8/1 odds.

Tim Eggleston made his ninth trip to the winner's circle this month with Coco Kiss. The daughter of Kiss My Hocks broke her maiden from five starts and has earned $12,243. The challenge finals will be her first attempt in a stakes competition.

Sherri Miller bred Coco Kiss in Indiana out of Coco Beach by Escondido Beach. Jeremy Newton and Connie Nobles own the $49,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate.

Eggleston trained three finalists, Barraza conditioned two, and Anthony Cunningham saddled three from his barn. Kvn Corona is the only sire with multiple qualifiers returning to the finals.
