Fifteen Fillies and Mares Entered in Cox Ranch Lone Star Distaff Challenge Trials

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–SEPTEMBER 5, 2024–Curls Joyful Wagon and Jess Kissing Beau are two of the 15 fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Cox Ranch Lone Star Distaff Challenge trials at Lone Star Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the September 28, $20,000-added final.

Curls Joyful Wagon races for Martin Stacy from the barn of trainer John Stinebaugh. A homebred 4-year-old daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, the mare is coming off of a half-length victory in a 400-yard, $42,900 open-condition allowance race at Ruidoso Downs on July 7. Curls Joyful Wagon has earned $48,530 from five starts this year, and her season record includes a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Flying Sophia, in the June 1, 400-yard Junos Request Stakes G at Remington Park.

Curls Joyful Wagon drew post 4 and will be ridden by Ali Rivera in the first of two trials.

Jess Kissing Beau is a homebred 4-year-old Kiss My Hocks mare trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owner Francisco Javier Garza. Jess Kissing Beau is coming off of a nose victory in the July 26, 400-yard Miss Retama Stakes (R) for Texas-bred distaffers at Retama Park.

Jess Kissing Beau drew post 4 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in the second heat.
