EDMONTON, ALB–JUNE 27, 2025–First Famous Prize delivered a sharp performance to win the $26,048(US) Adequan Century Mile Derby Challenge for AQHA Challenge-enrolled 3-year-olds on June 27 at Century Mile.
Breaking alertly under jockey Martin Ortiz, the sorrel filly by One Famous Eagle out of Fancy First Prize by Desiro covered the 400 yards in 20.037 seconds with a 12-mph tailwind, earning a 95 speed index on a fast track.
Owned by Commotion Creek Contracting and WT Ranches, Ltd. and trained by Buckey Stockwell, First Famous Prize held safely to win by three-quarters of a length, collecting the winner’s share of $13,544(US).
Bred in Texas by Weetona Stanley, she was purchased for $20,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale and has now banked $74,425 with three wins from eight starts.
Runner-up Sizzles Boss, a brown gelding by JD Wagon Boss out of Northfork Sizzle by Sizzlin Red Corona, ran gamely but lacked the late kick needed, finishing second by two and three-quarter lengths.
He earned $5,991(US) for owner Cinch Up Syndicate, who purchased him for $11,500 at the 2023 Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Sale. Sizzles Boss is also trained by Buckey Stockwell and was bred in Alberta by K. Glenn Wills. Alfredo Amador had the call. He has earned $58,152 in eight career starts.
Rounding out the top three was Tincture Of Time, a gray filly by leading sire Favorite Cartel out of Ynot Bar by Chicks Beduino. She picked up her first black type for owner Jerry Stojan, earning $2,966(US) with Ricardo Moreno aboard for trainer William Leech.
The California-bred filly was a $39,000 purchase at the 2023 Los Alamitos Equine Mixed Sale and was bred by Steve D. Burns DVM.
Pari-mutuel payoffs for the race were: First Famous Prize paid $7.80 to win, $3.70 to place, and $2.80 to show; Sizzles Boss paid $4.40 to place and $3.00 to show; Tincture Of Time paid $3.00 to show. The $2 exacta (4-5) returned $20.80, and the 60-cent trifecta (4-5-1) paid $23.49.
Also rans were: Ima Runnin Rose (fourth) and Team Rip 109 (disqualified and placed fifth).
