EDMONTON, AB–JUNE 17, 2026–Saturday afternoon racing at Century Mile will feature a nine-race program highlighted by two major stakes events for the Quarter Horse division, the $30,000 Regional John Deere Juvenile Challenge Final and the $30,000 Regional Adequan Derby Challenge Final. With talented young runners vying for challenge honors, fans and bettors can expect an exciting afternoon from start to finish.
The action begins immediately with the opening race of the card, the $30,000 Regional John Deere Juvenile Challenge Final. Scheduled for 4:45 p.m., the 350-yard event has drawn a field of five juveniles, each seeking one of the biggest victories of their young careers.
Heading the field is Great Falls, the 1-1 morning-line favorite. Despite being lightly raced, she enters with a distinct advantage as the only runner in the field with prior experience. In her lone start, she showed professionalism against maiden company, racing alertly throughout before finishing fourth, narrowly missing a placing position. That outing could prove invaluable as she faces several first-time starters in the championship event.
Great Falls, owned by Jerry Stojan, who purchased her for $24,000 at the Los Alamitos Yearling Sale, is a daughter of Mpshinning out of the Separatist mare Fall For It. Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, she will break from post four for trainer William H. Leech, with Ricardo Moreno retaining the mount.
The spotlight shifts to the third race of the afternoon, where seven talented sophomores will line up for the $30,000 Regional Adequan Derby Challenge Final. The 400-yard contest is scheduled for approximately 5:45 p.m. and features several accomplished runners, led by the in-form Warning Shott.
Installed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite, Warning Shott enters the derby final in peak form after capturing her trial and following up with a win in the $17,972 Century Mile Maiden Express Final. The filly showed consistency throughout her juvenile campaign, making eight starts and recording two wins, three runner-up finishes, and two third-place finishes. Her accomplishments have earned $34,488 for owner Jerry Stojan, who secured the filly for just $11,000 at the Los Alamitos Yearling Sale.
Like Great Falls, Warning Shott was bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM. The daughter of Mpshinning is out of the Separatist mare Separate Flight and will break from post two for trainer William H. Leech. Ricardo Moreno returns aboard as the talented filly looks to extend her winning streak to three races and add another stakes trophy to her résumé.
With owner Jerry Stojan, trainer William H. Leech, and jockey Ricardo Moreno holding strong hands in both featured events, Century Mile's Saturday program is shaping up to be a memorable afternoon. As the region's top juveniles and sophomores compete for Challenge Final honors, the $30,000 Regional John Deere Juvenile Challenge Final and the $30,000 Regional Adequan Derby Challenge Final promise plenty of excitement for racing fans across Western Canada.
The races at Century Mile can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
