LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 24, 2013—Ed Burke Million Futurity winner Five Bar Cartel and Rainbow Futurity winner Ms First Prize Rose are among the headliners that will race in the trials to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity tonight (Sunday).
There will be 112 freshman runners competing in a total of 14 trials with the horses with the 10 fastest times moving on to the $1,989,525 final to be held on Saturday, December 15.
The Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in the richest race of the season at the Orange County oval and over the years it has been won by superstars like Corona Cartel, the sire of Five Bar Cartel and Ms First Prize Rose. Other top past winners include One Famous Eagle, Good Resaon SA, Blues Girl Too, Corona Kool, Your First Moon, Tres Passes and Dashing Knud just to mention a few. The first place finisher in the Los Alamito Two Million in three weeks will earn $804,940.
Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches, LLC. will be represented by two of the biggest names on trial night in the form of Rainbow winner Ms First Prize Rose and PCQHRA Breeders' winner Viva Mi Corazon. Trained by Trey Wood, Ms First Prize Rose will make her local debut in a very tough trial number two that will also feature Governor’s Cup winner Up For It and Ed Burke and Kindergarten finalist Foose Is Loose. Ms First Prize Rose will start from the outside post number eight.
“We’re happy with the way she’s doing,” said Paul Leal, who is Wood’s assistant trainer. “She looked good when she worked at night under the lights here. She’s looked good ever since. She ran big at Ruidoso Downs when she won the Rainbow.”
Leal is also excited about the talented First Down Dash gelding Viva Mi Corazon, who was an impressive 3/4 length winner in the Breeders Futurity on October 5.
“He’s been ready to run the day after he won the Breeders Futurity,” Leal explained. “He was paid up to the Golden State Million, but we thought it was too many races too close. Winning the Breeders Futurity made up our minds about having him wait until the Two Million trials. He’s been doing everything right. He looks awesome.”
Viva Mi Corazon will compete in trial number seven, which will also feature Ron Hartley’s Moonist, who ran second to Up For It the Governor’s Cup on California Breeders Champions Night. John Cooper will saddle the Separatist gelding. Trial number seven will also feature Governor’s Cup finalist Chalalita and Spirit Leader, who ran second in a trial to the Golden State Million and fourth in a trial to the All American Futurity.
Racing for San Gregorio Racing Stables, the Danny Montes-trained Five Bar Cartel will headline the fifth trial of the night. The chestnut colt outdueled the talented Unchangeable by a nose to win the Ed Burke Million back on June 23, but had trouble at the start of the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity and had to settle for running fifth in the $1,045,000 event.

Ridden by Saul Ramirez Jr., who piloted Blues Girl Too to victory in the 2006 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, Five Bar Cartel will be going after his fifth win in six career starts when he leaves the gate from post number one in the trials. He’ll be facing one of the toughest fields of the night.
His rivals will include Dutch Masters III’s Foose filly She Forgives, who was second in the Kindergarten Futurity earlier this year, Golden State Million Futurity finalists Solid Connections and BP Its My Policy and PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalist Kokomo Beach. BP Its My Policy and She Forgives are multiple major futurity finalists. Owned by Bill Price and trained by Trey Wood, BP Its My Policy, a filly by First Down Dash, also ran in the Rainbow Futurity, while She Forgives ran in the Ed Burke Million and also PCQHRA Breeders Futurity.
Trotter’s Dash Through Fire, a Walk Thru Fire filly out of the Grade 1 winner Dash Back Perry, headlines the first trial of the night against the likes of Ed Allred’s Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist Well And Good. Allred has another great looking sprinter in the second trial in the form of Up For It. She was outstanding in winning the Governor’s Cup by a half-length on July 27 and was simply brilliant when winning her trial by 1 3/4 lengths on July 13. Trained by Scott Willoughby, the Kiddy Up filly enters trial number two after working solidly from the gate at 350 yards in :17.80 on October 26.
Ron and Ronnie Keller’s Unchangeable will headline the third trial with Eddie Garcia aboard for trainer Rafael Orozco. Bred by Allred, the Stel Corona gelding is a two-time winner that has never finished below second place in his five-race career.
Reliance Ranches LLC’s Foose gelding Rock You will be in action in the sixth trial after running third in the Golden State Million Futurity for trainer Eddie Willis, while Alberto Valdes’ Golden State Million fourth place finisher Highest Fire will join Viva Mi Corazon in the seventh.
Jesus Garera Garcia’s Carters Cartel colt One Slick Cartel will put his unbeaten four-race record on the line in the eighth race, while San Gregorio Racing Stables and Jose and Gustavo De La Torre’s Mr Corona Cartel headlines the 11th trial after finishing second to stablemate Turbulent Times in the prestigious Golden State Million. Mr Corona Cartel has hit the board in all five of his career starts.
Johnny Trotter’s Ruidoso Futurity finalist Strategic Weapon and Balgo Racing Team’s Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist Nefertity will also race in the 11th trial. Balgo Racing were part of the ownership group that won last year’s Two Million final with the outstanding filly Matabari. Beauprez, Bradbury and Bradbury’s Lil Ms Money Bags, who won the $100,000 Mile High Futurity, will also competed in the highly competitive 11th trial.
Spackman Racing and Lin Melton’s Smithy, a gelding by FDD Dynasty that ran third in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity, will take on Reliance Ranches LLC’s Shades Of Blues Girl, a full sister to the great World Champion Blues Girl Too. Wild West Futurity finalist Well Worth It heads the 13th trial, while stablemates Collin The Shot and Mistic Rose look tough in the 14th and final heat.
