LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 15, 2020—Futurity finalists SC Divas Cartel Man and Favorite Colossus are among the six talented runners looking for their first stakes win when they face off in the $20,000 Pat Hyland Handicap for 2-year-olds on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.

The 350-yard dash is the eighth and final race on the card, which gets underway at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Reliance Ranches LLC’s SC Divas Cartel Man has been a standout from the first race for 2-year-olds this season. That is because SC Divas Cartel Man won the meet’s first race for juveniles, scoring a ¾ length win in a time of :15.71.

The Corona Cartel gelding then finished in a dead heat for the win in his trial to the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity, an effort that earned him a spot to the million-dollar final. SC Divas Cartel went on to post a respectable sixth place finish in the rich final. The Mike Robbins-trainee will be a key contender in the Pay Hyland.

Jeff and Michelle Cravens’ homebred Favorite Colossus is also coming out of a strong effort in a major futurity at Los Alamitos. The son of Favorite Cartel was ninth in his career debut before improving in his second outing by finishing fifth before scoring a thrilling nose victory in a trial to the Governor’s Cup Futurity. The effort earned Favorite Colossus the second fastest qualifying time before returning here with a solid fourth place finish in the final on July 25. Cesar De Alba will saddle the Oregon-bred colt.

Owned by J. Garvan Kelly and Loyd Yother, Dreamland Express enters with a two-race win streak at Los Alamitos. The son of Zulu Dragon debuted at Remington Park in the spring with a runner-up effort in a maiden event before arriving in Southern California to post back-to-back victories. Juan Aleman trains the Oklahoma-bred colt.

The field will also feature Haras Portofino’s A Solid Reason and Lucky Seven Ranch’s Sassies Blues Girl, a pair of two-time winners at Los Alamitos, plus Counting The Ways, who will make his second career start after debuting with a strong half-length win on July 24 for owner Ed Allred and trainer Jose Flores.
