HOUSTON, TX—MAY 3, 2021—Graded stakes winner On Nyx and Hock It To You are among the 208 2-year-olds entered in this weekend’s Sam Houston Futurity (G2) trials at Sam Houston Race Park.
Eleven 330-yard trials will be run on Friday and Saturday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night’s heats will meet in the May 28, $150,000-added Sam Houston Futurity final.
Hock It To You drew post 2 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in Friday’s 11th heat. A sorrel son of Kiss My Hocks trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owners Reynold Munoz and Heavy Hitters Racing Stables, Hock It To You was a $35,000 purchase at last year’s Texas QHA Yearling Sale. The gelding ships in from Remington Park, where he earned $86,962 from two outs and ran second, a neck behind winner Revenant Moon, in the 300-yard, $477,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G2) on March 20.
On Nyx will be stretching out in distance off of her neck victory in the 300-yard, $302,000 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs on April 3. Trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owner TYKHE Racing LLC, the black daughter of Kiss My Hocks has banked $136,905 from two races.

Other contenders in this weekend’s Sam Houston Futurity trials include Lucky Dice, a graded stakes-placed son of One Sweet Jess and a $13,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. Trained by Joel Huitron for owner J & J Stone Co. Inc., the colt is coming off of a second-place finish to On Nyx in the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity.
Lucky Dice drew post 3 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez in Saturday’s eighth trial.
