AURORA, CO—SEPTEMBER 13, 2021—Twenty 2-year-olds, headed by stakes winners True and Flare For Royalty, are entered in Wednesday’s 400-yard Mile High Futurity trials at Arapahoe Park.

A Seperate Interest colt owned and trained by Hipolito Michel-Valverde, True will be stretching out in distance off of his half-length victory in the 350-yard, $137,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury Park on August 11. True was a $21,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.

True drew the rail post and will be ridden by Ramiro Garcia in the first of three trials.

Flare For Royalty is an undefeated son of the Ivory James stallion Flare For Ivory trained by Jose Manuel Barron for owner Hugo Barron-Sierra. A $4,000 buy at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the gelding is coming off of a three-quarter length win in the 330-yard, $82,000 Cherry Creek Futurity (R) for Colorado-breds on August 27.

Flare For Royalty drew post 5 and will be ridden by James Flores in the third heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Wednesday’s trials will meet in the October 2, $75,000-est. Mile High Futurity final.

Three 400-yard Mile High Derby trials will be contested on Thursday. Eighteen 3-year-olds are entered in three heats, with the 10 fastest qualifiers meeting in the $75,000-est. final on October 2.

LR Tempting Beast, a gray son of champion Tempting Dash owned and trained by Jaime Martinez, drew post 2 and will be ridden by Pedro V. Gonzalez in the third trial. The gelding has earned $40,883 from nine outs in three states, including Oklahoma and Wyoming, and his three wins include a 1 1/2-length victory in the 400-yard, $55,000 Mile High Futurity.
