HOUSTON, TX–MAY 9, 2022–
Graded stakes winners Bye Corona Bye and Ponte Trucha will each make their next starts in this weekend's 330-yard Sam Houston Futurity (G2) trials at Sam Houston Race Park.

A total of 20 trials will be contested, 10 on Friday and 10 on Saturday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night of trials will meet in the June 4, $150,000-added Sam Houston Futurity final.

Bye Corona Bye is coming off of a 1 1/4-length victory in the 300-yard, $217,000 West Texas Futurity (G1) at Sunland Park on April 3. Trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owner Carlos Ponce, the Ivory James colt was purchased for $22,000 at last year's Texas QHA Yearling Sale.

Bye Corona Bye drew post 6 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in Saturday's eighth trial.

Ponte Trucha is trained by Josue Huitron for owner Armando Cortez, who purchased the gelded son of Duponte for $18,000 at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Ponte Trucha will be stretching out in distance off of his three-quarter length victory at odds of 22-1 in the April 3, 300-yard Louisiana Downs Futurity (G3).

Ponte Trucha drew post 5 and will be ridden by Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco in Friday's first trial.
