Fillies Look To Take Step Up In 10th On Saturday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JUNE 3, 2022— Sergio Morfin’s Ever Up, who was very impressive when scoring her maiden victory on May 8, and Adolfo and Eduardo Perez and Paul Jones’ Always In Front, a fast closing second in her last start on May 7, are among the six sophomore fillies aiming for an allowance victory in the 10th race on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

The Morfin-trained Ever Up visited the winner’s circle after a gate-to-wire 1 1/2 length score at 33-1. She’s been competitive in her two other starts in 2022. Always In Front made a big move in the second half of her last start, as she moved up from fourth to second.

Another runner to watch is Magical Boots, who beat a group in her last outing that included Strawfinders Corona. That filly came back to win in a big way on May 22. Hopefulblue, winner of The Plan Handicap last year, is also part of this field.

A group of sophomores led by the fillies Budget Buster and Zoe Diamond will also be in action on Saturday and highlight the eighth race on the card. Budget Buster, second in the Aqualina Stakes last season, has finished third in her last two outings, including once against the red-hot filly Being Difficult.

Burning Fire is the other filly in this contest which also features a trio geldings led by the allowance placed Round About.

Oaks Finalist Heads Allowance Co-Feature On Sunday

Majority Interest, a four-time local winner and a finalist to the $438,000 Los Alamitos Oaks earlier this year, will take on a strong cast of fillies in the first of two allowance events headlining the 10-race program on Sunday at the OrangeCounty oval.

Racing for the partnership of Bradbury Racing, Robyn Gordon, Jimmy Harrel, and Thompson Racing Inc., Majority Interest was at her best in the 400-yard trials to the Oaks three races ago.

The filly by Seperate Interest flew out of the gate and never looked back in route to a daylight victory in one of four trials contested that night. She flashed her quickness once again in the Oaks final, as she had the lead at the start before losing ground against a big-time field on the way to a fifth-place finish.

Facing graded stakes winners She Goes Up and Sweet Tess, who was the 22-1 Oaks winner, Majority Interest finished third in the La Pacifica Handicap in her most recent start. An allowance winner earlier this year, Majority Interest will now face Fred Scane Handicap winner Hitters Count and Autumn Handicap winner Lovely Evening in this race.

Seven sophomores will race in the other allowance event, a field headed by stakes finalists El Tio Angel, Nevada Charles, and Call It Close.
