Bitterroot Winner Heads Wild West Futurity Trials At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—SEPTEMBER 30, 2022—Steve and Jason Berry’s Monicas Favorite, an impressive winner in the $100,000 Bitterroot Futurity at Pocatello Downs, and Lex Fabrizio’s One Sweet Duck, who competed in the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity earlier this year, are among the 21 juveniles that will race in the trials to the $96,900 Wild West Futurity on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Three trials will be contested at 350 yards with the horses with the 10 fastest times returning for the Wild West final on Sunday, October 23.

Horses are eligible for the Wild West if they’ve raced at least twice in the Intermountain and Northwest regions plus Canada, Arizona, Colorado, or Nevada.

Monicas Favorite will be in action in race eight, which is the third and final trial of the night. Trained by Heath Taylor, the Favorite Cartel filly has been extremely sharp. She’s won two of three starts and looked excellent in a gate work here when posting the fastest of 17 works on September 13.

She’ll meet One Sweet Duck in the third trial, a filly by One Sweet Jess with a pair of wins at Los Alamitos. Seventh in the Kindergarten final, One Sweet Duck was second in $101,000 futurity at Wyoming Downs.

Other top runners in the Wild West trials include Suite Caroline, who has placed in a pair of futurities this year including a third in the $121,000 Sweetwater Down Futurity, and Special Gift, who ran third in the Bitterroot.
