PHOENIX, AZ–NOVEMBER 11, 2022–
Stakes winners Southwesterly, Nineteen Crimes, and One Wild Cartel are among the 42 2-year-olds entered in Tuesday's 350-yard AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity trials at Turf Paradise Racetrack.

A $37,000 yearling purchase at last year's Los Alamitos Equine Sale, Southwesterly is trained by John M. Allred for owners Scott McDaniel and Justin Hasting. The gray daughter of Favorite Cartel has won both of her starts and has earned $46,034, and she is coming off of a neck victory in the July 30, $91,000 John Deere Arizona Juvenile Challenge Stakes at Arizona Downs.

Southwesterly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna in the first of five trials.

Nineteen Crimes returns to Arizona after a summer campaign in New Mexico. A son of Big Daddy Cartel and a half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Mister Riptide, the gelding has won all three of his starts at Turf Paradise, including the 300-yard, $97,000 Desert Classic Futurity on April 27.

Nineteen Crimes is trained by Jesus Torres-Casas for owner Ricardo M. Ramirez. A $97,000 yearling purchase at last year's New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the gelding drew post 8 and will be ridden by Kevin Carbajal in the second heat.

Gemologist is coming off of a fourth-place finish, one length behind winner Kings Touch, in the October 29, $40,000 New Mexico Cup Juvenile Stakes (R) at Zia Park. Trained by Eloy Navarro for owner Jesus Aguilar Mendoza, the gelded son of Jess A Chicks and $9,000 yearling buy has banked $55,789 from eight outs, and his four wins include a half-length victory in the August 7, 400-yard Zia Juvenile Stakes (R) at Ruidoso Downs.

Gemologist drew post 8 and will be ridden by Luis Martinez.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the December 8, $27,250-added final.
