SHELBYVILLE, IN–JUNE 2, 2023–Tachas Secret, a daughter of the No Secrets Here stallion Habits Secret and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 state-bred sophomores entered back in Saturday's 350-yard, $108,900 Harley Greene Derby-R at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Trained by Ricardo Martinez for owner Duke Racing LLC, Tachas Secret made her season debut with a clear 1 1/4-length victory in the second of four Harley Greene Derby trials on May 18. The filly has won three of six starts and has earned $39,550 while racing exclusively in Indiana.
Tachas Secret drew post 4 and will be ridden by Fernando Morin.
Also on Saturday, Beach Blast is the 6-5 morning-line favorite for the 400-yard, $83,000 Born Runner Classic Stakes-R for registered Indiana-breds sired by registered Indiana stallions.
A 5-year-old son of Escondido Beach trained by Randy Smith for owners Keith Bode and Deborah A. Smith, Beach Blast has won 10 of 17 races -- all at Horseshoe Indianapolis -- and he has banked $404,090. The gelding's four stakes wins include the 2021 Harley Greene-R and Blue River-R derbies.
Beach Blast drew post 9 and will be ridden by Juan D. Marquez.
Forty-three sophomores are entered in five 400-yard Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby trials.
Walter Harrison's Winner Spirit brings in a five-race win streak that includes victories in last year's $197,000 Indiana Stallion Futurity and $202,000 Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Randy Smith trains the homebred Apollitical Spirit gelding.
