LOS ALAMITOS, CA–FEBRUARY 9, 2024–Led by several runners with strong efforts in Grade 1 futurity trials last year, 44 sophomores have been entered in the trials to the $115,000 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes on Saturday.
Horses are eligible to compete in the 350-yard trials if they are maidens as of November 1. Since then, 11 have paid a visit to the winner’s circle and two of them have made a pair of trips to the charmed winner’s enclosure.
First post for the nine-race program is 6:10 p.m. (PDT) with the horses with the fastest 10 times advancing to the Maiden Stakes final. The trials will take place in races five through nine. There will be no live racing on Super Bowl Sunday night at Los Alamitos.
The multiple winners among the Maiden Stakes hopefuls will be in action in races five and seven.
Rodolfo Viramontes’ KR Stingray has recorded a pair of wins in his six starts, while Reliance Ranches’ Tres Toledo has also won twice in six career starts. Both of their recent wins have come at the allowance level here with KR Stingray winning at the 350-yard distance.
The opening trial, which is race five, will be headed by Bobby and Catherine Simmons’ Dawson Legate, who was second in his trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Race six will include Valeriano Racing’s Politicaly Extoled V, who was third in his Golden State Million trial, and Jesus Avila’s Relief Factor, who ran second in his Two Million trial.
Race eight will include Jessa Dashing Hero, who was third in the Ah Sigh Stakes on October 29, and AJ King Crown, who was second in his trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million.
The final trial will include Mario J. Rodriguez’s Corruptor, who ran fifth in the $50,000 Los Alamitos Invitational Stakes
