Lawless Wallace Returns In Strong Allowance Contest On Saturday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–MAY 23, 2024–Making his first start after being acquired privately by Brian and Kiley Kocher, 2022 local standout Lawless Wallace will headline a star-studded cast of older horses in the featured $14,000 allowance event here on Saturday night.

Seven top-quality runners will be in action, with four horses in this lineup ranking among the nation’s top-aged stallions. Lawless Wallace is among the stallion prospects in this race along with Grade 2 El Primero Del Ano Derby winner Hes Chickless, and graded stakes finalist Dont Sass KVN and Fortunate Corona. A victory by any of the four in this event would be a nice addition to the resume in each of their quests towards developing into the meet’s top aged stallion.

Lawless Wallace returns to Orange County after winning both of his starts here as a juvenile in 2022. The son of Tres Seis won his trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity but missed qualifying as one of the 10 fastest in the trials to the rich finale. He returned to score a nice consolation victory, taking the top spot in the $50,000 Los Alamitos Juvenile Stakes.

The Papas Place-bred runner then spent his sophomore campaign racing at Remington Park and Ruidoso Downs with good success last year. He was the runner-up in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby and competed in the Rainbow Invitational Stakes. Lawless Wallace, who is eligible to race in the trials to the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity next month, will enter this season debut after posting the fastest of 31 works when going in :12.1 on April 20. Armando Cervantes will be aboard the talented sprinter now trained by Monty Arrossa.

Jeryl Hartley’s multiple stakes winner Hes Chickless and J. Francisco Diaz’s El Aventurero will challenge Lawless Wallace in his return bow. Both runners were stakes winners last year, with Hes Chickless taking the Grade 2 El Primero Del Ano Derby and the A Ransom Handicap, while El Aventurero picked up the victory in the First Down Dash Handicap at season’s end. Both Hes Chickless and El Aventurero have faced stakes-caliber competition this year, most recently in the Kaweah Bar Handicap, where Hes Chickless finished second while El Aventurero ran fourth.

This quality field will also include Boardshort Stables’ stakes-placed runner Ima Sixy Man, Bradbury Racing’s very talented Dont Sass KVN, who ran third in the Grade 2 Southern California Derby, and the graded stakes finalist Fortunate Corona and Turbulent Kisses.
