Flash Bak has been named the morning-line odds of 5-2 in Saturday’s Grade 1, $250,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Championship.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 29, 2024–Most of the top older American Quarter Horses are represented in Saturday’s Grade 1, $250,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Championship with morning-line favorite Flash Bak leading the group statistically.

The field of 10, nine geldings and one horse, have compiled 71 career wins and total earnings of more than $5.4 million. Flash Bak leads the group with a dozen wins and earnings of $2,002,157.

The only member of the field not to reach the $100,000 plateau yet in money is One Stolin Eagle. All 10 in the field are previous stakes winners.

Owned by Valeriano Racing Stables of Odessa, Texas and trained by Heath Taylor, Flash Bak has been given morning-line odds of 5-2. The 6-year-old gelding will try to extend a two-race winning streak that began with the $750,000 Champion of Champions in Dec. 2023 at Los Alamitos in Southern California and continued with the $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park in New Mexico the first week of this year.

Flash Bac has won 12 times from 30 career attempts with eight seconds and four thirds. A son of Moonin The Eagle from the Check Him Out broodmare Checknbac, Flash Bak is seeking his first victory at Remington Park where he has come up empty in three previous starts. He was fourth in the 2022 Schauf Remington Park Championship, and eighth in the same race last year.

He was also seventh in the 2023 Leo Stakes. All three races were won by the late two-time American Quarter Horse Association World Champion Danjer.

Francisco Calderon will ride Flash Bak, bred in Missouri by Jim Streelman and Bill Dale.

At 4-1 odds, The Swamp is second on the morning-line. The winner of the Grade 1 Leo Stakes on May 4 now has seven lifetime wins from 18 starts and has won two of five races overall at Remington Park. Owned by Chavez Concrete and trained by Diego Arroyo, The Swamp will be ridden by Gonzalo Gutierrez who also handled him in winning the Leo.

The race is named in honor of the late Debbie Schauf who served as executive director of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association from 1996 to 2019.

The Schauf Remington Park Championship is the 11th of 12 races on Champions Night to conclude the 2024 spring season. Total purses on the evening are $2,442,555 with the final nine events all stakes races. The other Grade 1 races on the program include:
