OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 31, 2024–Deep Blue almost pulled off the upset of the meet in last year’s $1.2 million Heritage Place Futurity, running second at 13-1 odds. Fast forward one year and this 3-year-old filly is the 5-2 morning-line favorite in the Grade 2, $296,940 Heritage Place Oaks on Saturday at Remington Park at 400 yards.

The sophomore filly by A Revenant, out of the Corona Cartel mare Blues Girl Too, was the fastest qualifier in the Oaks trials on May 12, covering 400 yards in :19.829 for a speed-index of 90. She will break from the 9-hole in the field of 10 for the Oaks under jockey Ali Rivera. John Stinebaugh trains her for owner RDS Legacy Racing of Manchester, Iowa.

Deep Blue has raced 400 yards twice, winning her trial by a full length and also trying it at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, against Texas Classic Futurity company last year, running second. There she was beaten three-quarters of a length by Js on Fire on Oct. 27. Js on Fire finished fifth in that final, a head in front of fourth-place finisher San Lencho, who just beat Deep Blue in last year’s Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park. Ali Rivera retains the mount on Deep Blue for the Oaks. She was bred in Oklahoma by Lucky Seven Ranch.

Deep Blue’s record going into the Oaks final is seven starts, four wins, two seconds for earnings of $245,644. The filly has the second-highest bankroll in the Oaks.

The top earner is San Lorenzo Blood (9-2 third favorite) with $273,173 with a running line of 8-4-2-1 for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr., of Rosenberg, Texas, and trainer Toby Keeton. She made a great portion of her money in Louisiana last year, winning four of six starts, including a victory in the $365,000 Mardi Gras Futurity at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La., on March 25, 2023, then picking up big paychecks in the $327,000 Louisiana Lassie Futurity and the $625,000 Louisiana Bred Futurity at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. San Lorenzo Blood, bred in Louisiana by Slash Z Quarter Horses, was purchased for $70,000 at the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale in 2022. She was the fifth-fastest qualifier in the trials. Juan Pulido is in the saddle.

The second favorite in the Oaks line is Alliekat Dynasty at 4-1. This 3-year-old filly by FDD Dynasty, out of the Apollitical Jess mare Pollitical Scorpion, has won eight of her last nine starts, including victories in the Grade 2, $50,000 Decketta Stakes at Remington Park on March 16 this year and winning two stakes as a 2-year-old. She won the $203,000 OHA Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., on Sept. 25 and the $70,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes at Remington Park on May 27.

She has won six-of-eight starts in Oklahoma City. Her lifetime record is 10-8-0-1 for earnings of $219,576. Alliekat Dynasty checked in as the fourth-fastest in the trials for trainer Jesus Ruiz and owner Arrowhead Racing of Wapanucka, Okla. She was bred in Oklahoma by Jahree Standridge.

The Heritage Place Oaks is the ninth of 12 races on Champions Night to conclude the 2024 spring season. Total purses on the evening are $2,442,555 with the final nine events all stakes races. The Grade 1 races on the program include:

Race 5: $230,475 Speedhorse Graham Paint/Appaloosa Futurity, 2-year-olds, 350 yards

Race 7: $50,000 Remington Park Distance Championship, 3 and older, 870 yards

Race 8: $100,000 Junos Request Stakes, fillies and mares, 3 and older, 400 yards

Race 9: $250,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Championship, 3 and older, 440 yards

Race 12: $1,081,820 Heritage Place Futurity, 2-year-olds, 350 yards
