Fifteen Iowa-Bred Sophomores Entered in Cyclone Derby Trials

ALTOONA, IA–JUNE 17, 2024–Fifteen state-bred 3-year-olds led by stakes winners Foxy Cowgirl, TS Koko Inmyjeans, and Five Bar Phi are entered in Saturday's 350-yard Cyclone Derby (R) trials at Prairie Meadows.

The ten fastest qualifiers from Saturday's two heats will meet in the July 7, $75,000-est. final.

Foxy Cowgirl is a daughter of Flying Cowboy 123, trained by Ed Hardy for owners Paul Luedemann, Corey Wilmes, and Xcel Farms. The filly has earned $91,690 from five races in Iowa and Oklahoma, and her three wins include last year's 350-yard, $166,000 Jim Bader Futurity (R) at Prairie Meadows.

Foxy Cowgirl drew post eight and will be ridden by Angel O. Ramirez in the first trial.

TS Koko Inmyjeans and Five Bar Phi will match strides in the second heat. A homebred gelded son of Fast N Famous Jeans trained by Tony Jones for owner Thomas J. Scheckel, TS Koko Inmyjeans will be making his season debut. TS Koko Inmyjeans is coming off of a 2-year-old season during which he banked $56,009 from five outs and scored a two-length win in the 350-yard, $83,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity (R).

TS Koko Inmyjeans drew post four and will be ridden by Jonathan Dominguez.

Five Bar Phi races for Christine A. Hovey from the barn of trainer Ed Hardy. A gelded son of Five Bar Cartel, The winner of last year's 330-yard, $88,000 Hawkeye Futurity (R), Five Bar Phi returns to Iowa off of his head victory as the odds-on favorite in a 300-yard, $23,000 allowance dash at Remington Park in Oklahoma City on May 23.

Five Bar Phi drew post seven and will be ridden by Angel O. Ramirez.
