SELMA, TX–JUNE 30, 2024–Fire Cowboy, a multiple graded stakes winning Flying Cowboy 123 gelding owned by Emmanuel Villarreal, is one of 32 sophomores entered in Wednesday's 350-yard Retama Park Derby trials at Retama Park

Fire Cowboy is on a seven-race win streak, which includes a 1 1/2-length victory in the 350-yard, $280,000 Sam Houston Derby (G3) on June 15. Last year, he won the 350-yard, $131,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Lone Star Park and the 400-yard, $238,000 Evangeline Downs Futurity (G3).

The gelding has won eight out of 11 races, including four out of seven at the 350-yard distance, and has earned $357,773.Fire Cowboy drew post 4 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. for trainer Juan Diaz Jr. in the second of four trials.

Other prominent 3-year-olds entered in Wednesday's trials include Dollar Bill, a graded stakes winning son of Kiss My Hocks trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owner Genesis Tovar.

Dollar Bill is coming off of a second-place finish, a head behind winner SC Time To Run, in the 400-yard, $239,000 Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park on June 1. The gelding has won both of his outs at Retama Park, including last year's 350-yard, $700,000 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG1).

Dollar Bill drew post eight and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in the fourth heat.

The ten fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 27, $100,000-added Retama Park Derby final.
