TQHA Sale Futurity Trials Set for Thursday, Friday at Retama Park

SELMA, TX–JULY 1, 2024–An even 100 state-bred 2-year-olds are entered in this week's Texas QHA Sale Futurity (RG1) trials at Retama Park.

A total of 12 trials will be contested, six on Thursday and six on Friday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night of trials will meet in the July 27, $200,000-added TQHA Sale Futurity final.

Joose Boxx and Kiss My Maruska headline Thursday's trials. A gray son of Kiss My Hocks trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owner Javier De Los Santos Muzquiz, Joose Boxx is coming off of a Remington Park spring campaign during which the gelding earned $280,004 from four races and scored a three-quarter length victory in the 300-yard, $502,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G2) on March 23.

Joose Boxx drew post 6 and will be ridden by Nestor Duran in Thursday's fifth trial.

Kiss My Maruska is trained by Juan Diaz Jr. for owner Heavy Hitters Racing Stables. An $88,000 purchase from breeders Tyler and Naia Graham at last year's TQHA Yearling Sale, the gelded son of Kiss My Hocks is coming off of a third-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Kempton, in Oklahoma's richest horse race, the June 1, $1.082-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park.

Kiss My Maruska has banked $209,265 from four outs in Oklahoma and Louisiana. The gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in Thursday's first heat.

Trainer Juan Diaz Jr. will send out stakes winner Hawkabye Baby in Friday's trials. An $8,500 purchase at last year's TQHA Yearling Sale by owner Heavy Hitters Racing Stables, the chestnut daughter of the One Famous Eagle stallion Hawkeye ships in from Louisiana, where he earned $109,905 from three races at Delta Downs and won the 330-yard, $213,000 Old South Futurity on May 18.

Hawkabye Baby drew post 5 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in Friday's sixth trial.
