Running To The Moon Draws Post 2 for Grade 1, $626,135 All American Oaks

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–AUGUST 29, 2024–Running To The Moon, a Grade 1-winning daughter of champion First Moonflash and the 5-2 morning-line favorite, is one of 10 3-year-old fillies entered back in Monday's 440-yard, $626,135 All American Oaks (G1) at Albuquerque Downs.

Trained by Heath Taylor for owner Valeriano Racing Stables, Running To The Moon brings in a three-race win streak that includes a half-length victory in the 440-yard, $482,000 Rainbow Oaks (G1) at Ruidoso Downs on July 28. The filly is the third-fastest qualifier from four All American Oaks trials run August 11.

Running To The Moon drew post 2 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.

Other contenders include Flying Sophia and Especially Goodcandy. A homebred daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 racing for Calder and Candy Ezzell of Roswell, New Mexico, Flying Sophia has earned $67,248 from four starts this year, and her Remington Park spring campaign included a half-length victory against aged distaffers in the June 1, 400-yard Junos Request Stakes (G1). Mike Joinerr trains the sorrel filly.

Flying Sophia drew post 7 and will be ridden by James Flores.

Especially Goodcandy races for Mark and Annette McCloy from the barn of trainer Trey Wood. A homebred daughter of Jess Good Candy, the filly made her season debut with a half-length win in her All American Oaks trial.

Especially Goodcandy was coming off of a juvenile season during which she banked $414,395 from seven outs and ran second, one length behind winner and champion Dark NME, in the 400-yard, $1.176-million Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Especially Goodcandy drew post 4 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez.
