LOS ALAMITOS, CA–SEPTEMBER 19, 2024–It’s a day and night doubleheader Saturday at Los Alamitos, with the running of the $125,000 Dark Mirage headlining the daytime Thoroughbred program, while a big Pick 6 carryover of $42,710 topping the marquee during the eight-race evening card at the Orange County track.

With the new money that will be wagered in the Pick 6 on Saturday, the total pool could be around $175,000.

The nighttime Pick 6 sequence will start in race three with Bobby Cox’s Favorite Cartel filly Favorite Emblem hoping for a strong return to action after a less-than-ideal debut on August 17. The well-bred filly broke slow and lugged in but then showed a lot of power while running third at 18-1 odds. An improved effort could see her shine in her second bow.

The feature event on the card is an allowance event in race six, which is the fourth leg of the Pick 6 sequence. Gentry Farms’ Seperate Heart, who ran in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million after winning her trial last year, is among the top names in this race.

Howard Nichols’ Heather Denise is the other major stakes runner in this event. A year older than the other five in this event, Heather Denise ran in the PCQHRA Breeders Derby last year. This is her 2024 debut.
